Five South African Companies Heading Back to the Office in 2022
As vaccination programs continue across the country, some of South Africa’s largest corporations begin their return to the office. This has come out of a need to facilitate collaboration and engagement between employees - something that became quite challenging to achieve under the hybrid model.
Read on to gain insight into some of SA’s most prominent companies that are making their way back to the office.
Coronation
As one of South Africa’s largest asset managers, it is no surprise that Coronation made a full return to its work premises as of the beginning of November 2021. Most of its employees are fully vaccinated and returning to the office has allowed Coronation to share its company culture with the new employees hired during lockdown.
Discovery
Discovery was one of the first South African companies to institute a mandatory vaccination policy, allowing the company to begin bringing employees back to offices across the country, albeit not at full capacity. “Based on the science and public health imperative, we see it as our responsibility to materially increase the country’s overall vaccination rate,” says Discovery CEO Adrian Gore.
MTN Group
This mobile telecommunications giant brings bustle back to its headquarters this January, as they too institute mandatory vaccination policies. Their corporate headquarters in Fairlands, Roodepoort, is likely to become a hub of activity once again as employees start to come back to the office full-time.
Old Mutual
With its head office in Pinelands, Cape Town, Old Mutual has also begun to phase more office time into its work model as more employees get their vaccinations. According to the insurance company’s chief executive Iain Williamson: “Across the world, vaccinations are proving to be the key to unlocking economic activity.”
Standard Bank
Standard Bank has announced that they will be instituting a mandatory vaccination policy from April this year, which might be a bit later than some of South Africa’s other major businesses. Despite this, the measures they are putting in place look to foster collaboration in the workplace.
2022: The year for collaboration and engagement
