How to Boost Morale in The Office Space

Date: 15 July 2021  /  Author: Kate De Wet  /  3 mins read

Beat the slump with tips from our team:

The month of July is traditionally synonymous with low morale, depleted energy reserves and often ‘burnout’. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has added a further layer of complexity to the mix.

As many continue to grapple with job uncertainty, fears and general concerns around COVID-19, employers are working harder than usual to boost spirits and enhance productivity in the office space.

Naturally, employees are the heart of every business, and their wellbeing matters; no one understands that better than us.

We have compiled a list of top tips for employers looking to beat the slump and boost morale in their offices:

1)   Christmas in July:

Keep this in your idea bank for 2022. Whether its virtual or in-person, the exchange of small gifts is the perfect way to boost morale in the office space and bring some much needed holiday cheer to the middle of the year!

 2)   Work-life balance:

In high-stress offices, one of the best ways to boost morale is to give to your employees what they need: balance.

Where possible, allow your employees to leave the office space a few hours early once every few months, when things are quiet. Make sure to position these free hours as a reward for hard work and high performance and as a privilege that should not be abused or taken advantage of.

They will surely appreciate the gesture.

3)   Check-in:

In cases where employee productivity is notably lacking in the office space, ask managers to check-in regularly with their team members.

In-person empathy can go a long way in boosting morale – especially in the digital age.

4)   Support and encourage employee-led initiatives:

Putting the power in your employees’ hands makes all the difference. Find out what drives them, what inspires them and what causes are close to their hearts.

Let them spearhead projects that add value to the community and to your company (as a whole); be it a CSI drive or an internal office campaign.

5)   Ideation:

How often do we turn off our devices, gather in the office space and just brainstorm?

Whether you’re brainstorming strategies for a new or an existing client, ways to improve service, improve on a product or improve the office’s culture, there is nothing better (or more inspiring) than coming together to share ideas.

Make sure that employees feel comfortable sharing without the fear of being burdened by logistics or roll-out, encourage them to think big! If you prioritise a seamless flow to the output of ideas, great things are bound to follow.

6)   Communicate:

In an age where many businesses are operating outside of the physical office space or have adopted a hybrid model, internal miscommunication is on the rise. This can lead to not only conflict, but employee deliverables falling through the cracks.

To counter this, set aside some in-office time to clearly communicate with your team. Set out a clear to-do list (including due dates) and check-in to ensure that everyone understands what is expected of them.

In this process, it’s crucial that your team feels supported and understood.

Finally, there’s no better way to battle the mid-year slump than to do it in a beautiful new office space.

A change of scenery might be just what you need to kickstart your team and reinvigorate your brand. Chat to a Galetti agent today to help you find the perfect office space for your team.
