Gen Z’s are becoming the world’s predominant workforce, and companies are looking for ways to attract this new era of employees. We looked at what’s currently being done and decided to flip the script. Presenting: HOW NOT TO ATTRACT GEN Z’s TO YOUR COMPANY. Warning: This may get a little dark and twisted.
Embrace ignorance and intolerance
If you want to repel Gen Z, embrace ignorance and intolerance. Show that your company doesn’t value diversity or inclusivity. Make it clear that you don’t want to hire anyone who doesn’t fit your narrow definition of what a “good employee” looks like. After all, who needs a bunch of diverse and open-minded young people when you can stick with the same old, tired ideas?
Be inflexible and unresponsive
Flexibility and work-life balance are both very important to Gen Z’s, so if you want to keep them away, be inflexible and unresponsive. Make sure your company has rigid schedules, no remote work options, and limited vacation time. Show your employees that you don’t trust them to manage their own time effectively, and that you’re more interested in micromanaging their every move than giving them the freedom to do their best work.
Ignore technology and innovation
Gen Z’s are all about technology and innovation, so if you want to turn them off, ignore it completely. Stick with outdated tools and processes, refuse to invest in new technology, and make sure your employees are working with outdated and unreliable equipment. Why bother keeping up with the latest trends when you can do things the old-fashioned way, right?
Avoid social responsibility
Gen Z’s are passionate about social responsibility and making a positive impact on the world. If you want to push them away, avoid it completely. Don’t bother with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs or charitable initiatives. Who needs to make a difference in the world when you can just focus on making money?
Now, let’s talk about how not to make Gen Z tick
Be fake and disingenuous
If you want to make a Gen Z run for the hills, be fake and disingenuous. Show your employees that you’re more interested in putting on a show than being authentic. Make promises you can’t keep, pretend to care about causes you don’t actually support, and make sure your employees know that their opinions and ideas don’t matter.
Be purposeless
Gen Z’s want to work for companies that have a purpose beyond making money. If you want to push them away, be purposeless. Show your employees that you don’t care about making a positive impact on the world, and that your only goal is to make as much money as possible. Who needs a sense of purpose when you can just focus on the bottom line, right?
Stifle growth and development
Gen Z’s are a generation that is always looking to learn and grow. If you want to keep them away, stifle their growth and development. Don’t invest in their training or professional development, and make it clear that they’ll never have the opportunity to advance their careers at your company. Why bother giving them the tools they need to succeed when you can just keep them stuck in the same dead-end job forever?
Now that you know all these things, which path will you take? Of course, we hope you’re not really planning to do any of these things, but if you are, we won’t stop you – after all, it’s your loss.
