Facilitating MSC’s Relocation of their Call Centre to SA

In our latest podcast episode of the Corner Office, John Jack , Galetti CEO, hosted Ila D. Milambo, Senior Transaction Manager at Galetti Advisory, to discuss his successful negotiation for MSC Cruises and the booming business process outsourcing (BPO) and call centre industry in South Africa.

MSC Cruises, a massive global organization with over 150,000 employees worldwide, recently made a significant move by placing their call centre operations in South Africa. This decision was based on several factors, including the country’s advantageous time zones, the efficient work ethic of the South African Workforce, and overall suitability for hosting a call centre.

Ila approached MSC, initially headquartered in Sandton, to assist them with their property requirements. He proceeded to play a crucial role in facilitating their decision to make the move. Despite the challenge of the immediate need for a call centre, he was able to not only find a temporary space in just three months but simultaneously secure a long-term solution with all of MSC’s specifications in mind.

Ila shortlisted five properties, with 54 Maxwell Woodmead eventually being chosen as the ideal location after careful analysis, with MSC leasing 4,333.47 sqm of office space. This move was not just a test pilot; it was a strategic decision to establish a full-fledged call centre in South Africa.

The growth of call centres in South Africa is not just a trend; it’s a significant driver of employment and economic growth. The industry’s expansion is creating real opportunities for job seekers, with many progressing through the ranks as they gain experience. Overall, MSC Cruises’ decision to establish a call centre in South Africa is a positive development for the country, demonstrating that global companies still see value and opportunity in investing here. It’s a story of growth, opportunity, and the ongoing evolution of South Africa’s commercial landscape.
