As the future of work continues to evolve, so do the skills that employers seek the most. The World Economic Forum recently released its annual Future of Jobs Survey, and while ‘analytical thinkers’ rank at number 1, ‘creative thinkers’ are fast becoming hot commodities in the workplace.

Contrary to popular belief, creative thinkers have had to fight for their place in the workplace. A decade ago, creativity didn’t even make the skills list; in 2020, ‘creativity, originality and initiative’ ranked at number 5, and this year ‘creative thinking’ has jumped up to number 2.

Interestingly, soft skills such as creative thinking, self-awareness, and agility now rank among the top competencies highly prized by an estimated 800 surveyed companies, surpassing the likes of technological literacy and leadership.

Creative thinkers will give your business the edge

As a creative thinker myself, this point stood out to me. Creative thinking goes beyond innovative ideas or being artistic. It’s a mindset that embraces curiosity, flexibility, and the ability to think differently.

Think about it, AI cannot operate in isolation, and by combining creative thinking with the technological advancements that exist today, we can push the boundaries and explore new possibilities.

And regardless of the sector that your company operates in, every company should be investing in creative talent as a key competitive advantage.

Remember: In the workplace, creative thinking can transform how we approach challenges and drive growth. Whether it’s developing new products or improving processes, creative thinkers bring fresh perspectives that lead to breakthroughs. They see opportunities where others see obstacles and constantly seek ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

What is your company doing to embrace and make way for more creative thinkers?
